2 Amazing VA Benefits: Ways to Pay for Our Services at No Cost to You

No one deserves to be taken care of more than our veterans. Do you agree?

Thankfully, the VA provides a nice package of benefits for our home care services for those that qualify. Veterans and sometimes even spouses of veterans can qualify for our services at no cost to them. In fact, it is even possible to qualify and receive both benefits simultaneously.

Knowing, understanding, and navigating how to receive these benefits is not easy. This article is meant to give a brief overview of these two benefits and provide you some direction on how to get the ball rolling with them.

The Grandson is honored to be an In-Network VA Provider of In-Home Supportive Care, and we are thrilled that veterans can now benefit from our high-quality care and amazing team of staff and caregivers.

We might not be experts in the VA processes (I don’t think anyone truly is), but we are happy to help as much as we can. Now, let’s get into these 2 benefits!

#1 - VA Community Care Network

This is a wonderful benefit for veterans that can allow veterans to receive our services at absolutely no cost to them. Veterans can even qualify for as much as 24/7 care with this program.

The amount of hours a veteran can receive is determined by the VA based on various factors like current medical diagnoses and the number of routine, daily tasks the veteran is unable to do.

To receive this benefit, a veteran must first be in the VA health care system. Then, they must request this benefit with their primary care physician (PCP). The doctor will then start the process by putting in the order. Next, a social worker or case worker with the VA will be assigned to handle the case from there. The social worker will typically contact the veteran to gather more information and do an assessment. Based on the assessment, they will assign services and hours accordingly.

Remember, if the veteran is wanting the best care, do not forget to request ‘The Grandson’ as the provider.

Once this process is complete and we have received authorization from the VA to begin services, we will begin our high quality care with our amazing staff!

There is not a specific link to learn more about this benefit, so instead we recommend to simply contact your local VA physician to begin the approval process.

#2 - Aid and Attendance

This is a pension benefit for veterans and/or their surviving spouses. If approved for this benefit, veterans can receive a monthly payment just like they would any other disability or pension payment. There are income and asset requirements for receiving this benefit.

The amount that can be received depends on several factors which the VA will determine. In the end, the benefit can be up to $3,536 in the year 2023. This money is given for use on services just like ours.

To apply, people can either apply on their own by filling out VA Form 21-2680 or by going to their local VA office. Here is a link to the VA’s webpage for more information about Aid & Attendance, as well as the form needed to apply: click here

In the end, remember that the process for applying for these benefits starts and ends with the VA. The veteran’s primary care physician, the nursing staff, and a social worker/case worker will typically be involved in the process of applying for these benefits. If a veteran is applying for either of these benefits, but has never seen a doctor or started care through the VA, it would be advisable to do that as soon as possible. Establishing care with the VA will be required and there is usually a wait time to see a doctor for the first time. So don’t delay and start that process now, if needed.

For additional help with these benefits, sometimes contacting a local elder law attorney can be useful. We will happily recommend one to you if you would like.
